Transportation: Government approves and authorizes the rail link between North Évora and Elvas / Caia,


The Government authorized the investment 17 million euros in the new rail link between Évora North and the border with Spain, Elvas / Caia, to be completed by 2020, according to a decree published on Monday in the Official Gazette.

BEJA- comboios_800x800 stationAccording to the ordinance of the secretaries of state budget and Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, concerned are five contracts for services, including technical coordination of the project (3,6 million), works of art and special structures (7,3 million) and connection to the Eastern Line (1,2 million), among others.

O investimento global de 17 million, to which is added VAT, to be held by the National Railway Network (Refer), It will be shared by the six years of the running of the rail link project between Évora North and Elvas / Caia, and that for 2015, is due a payment of about 750 thousand euros relating to five contracts.

The biggest financial investment must be made in 2016 and 2017, with payment 13,7 million in these two years.

“The amount fixed for each financial year may be increased by the remaining balance on the budget execution of the previous year”, refers to the decree published and took effect yesterday.

According to the same document, “the financial burden arising” the execution of the project “are met due to the funds registered or entered in the budget of Refer”, what, Since Monday, integrates Infrastructure Portugal, By merging with Estradas de Portugal.

The new railway line between Évora and Elvas / Caia is expected in the Strategic Plan for Transport and Infrastructures 3+, contemplating the connection between Sines, on the Alentejo coast, and the Spanish border by rail of goods.
