Alqueva: Water leaks detected by drones and drones.
The detection of water leaks in large distribution networks from the surveillance with drones and drones.
The reduction of leakage in large distribution networks of water has been identified as one of the challenges of the Horizon 2020, to contribute to the creation of an efficient society in water and energy and resilient terms to the impacts of climate change.
The project H2020 WADI has developed an innovative concept for detection of water leaks in these networks. The methodology consists in WADI coupled optical devices using remote monitoring, installed in complementary aerial platforms (aircraft and drones).
This methodology allows early monitoring of leaks accurately, even in difficult to access systems, as an alternative more efficient and inexpensive methods available to local and more reliable than detection by satellites.
The application of this early detection system leaks will allow increasing the efficiency of water use. The methodology will be demonstrated in two pilot sites: in the Provence region for development of methodology and validation of technology, and development of the Alqueva, for operational demonstration.
WADI system has been applied to the preliminary validation network infrastructure water Société du Canal de Provence and Development of Multiple Purpose alqueva. The aerial platform flew over 3 potential areas of high ground moisture, for detection of several water leaks artificially created, validating the detection procedure.
Data from WADI campaigns have been already processed and validated for the determination of wavelengths optimized for leak detection. The result is a series of maps of different indicators which reveal the presence of water (water content).”
