After being president of the Chamber of Beja between 2009 and 2013, Jorge Pulido Valente seeks to return to the presidency of the city council of Merto, which he led between 2001 and 2008, who left before the end of the term.
The Movement “United for Mértola and the People” revealed that the former mayor of Mértola and Beja, will be the candidate for mayor of “Vila Museu. Under the motto *Retake the Right Direction, with Eyes on the Future*, the movement announced that the heads of the list of the Municipal Assembly and the Municipality of Mértola in the next local councils will be respectively, João Madeira and Jorge Pulido Valente.
Jorge Pulido Valente, senior municipal technician, was president of the Chamber of Mértola de 2001 a 2008 and during the last 5 years vice president of CCDRA. It was awarded in 2016 the decoration of High Municipal Interest by the Municipality of Mértola.
Pulido Valente left the municipality of Mértola in 2008, having been replaced by Jorge Rosa, taking up a position at EDIA, having later been the candidate of the PS in the municipalities of 2009 who would win defeating Francisco Santos (CDU). Four years later, Valente failed to be reelected after being defeated by the former mayor of Serpa, John Rocha.
On the other hand, the candidate for the Municipal Assembly, João Madeira, is an agronomist and farmer at Corte do Gafo de Cima, being connected, since the beginning of your career, to agricultural associations.
The United Movement for Mértola and the People justifies that “already presented in its Manifesto, in general lines, the 8 structuring axes of your project, having in recent months come to identify, analyze and discuss the profile of the future members of the municipal team that will run for both the Chamber and the Municipal Assembly. Regarding Parish Councils, the Movement does not consider it pertinent to present its own candidates, its intention being to support the candidates who present themselves, whenever it considers that they may be in a position to carry out a good mandate”.
Jorge Pulido Valente is the fourth known candidate for the presidency of the Municipality of Mértola, after Mário Tomé's candidacy for the PS was known, Luís Morais Costa for CDU and Teresa Sequeira for Chega.
In 2017, Jorge Rosa, who reached the term limit this year won with 53,65% of the vote, against 38,65% by Orlando Pereira of the CDU and 3,47% by David Incarnation of the PSD.
Since the first free elections of Local Power in 1976, Mértola met five presidents: Serrao Antonio Martins (6 year old) 1976-1982, Fernando Ribeiro Rosa (11) 1982-1993, Paulo Manuel Ramos Neto (8) 1993-2001, Jorge Pulido Valente (7) 2001-2008 and Paulo Jorge Colaco Rosa (13) 2008-2021.
