Beja: 8 October. Municipal Day of Mourning in memory of Veiga Trigo.


At yesterday's Chamber meeting, a Municipal Day of Mourning was approved, on 8 October, in Memory of Veiga Trigo.

Beyond the Day of Mourning, a minute of silence was also observed and at the proposal of the elected representatives of the Socialist Party, was approved, unanimously, a note of condolence on the death of the former international football referee, José Alberto Veiga Trigo.

On Tuesday, the Municipal Flag will be at half mast, in Memory of the citizen who in 1990, was honored by the Municipality of Beja, with the Silver Medal of Municipal Merit.

Note of Regret

Those elected by the Beja City Council come to express their deepest regret at the death of the former international football referee, José Alberto Veiga Trigo.

Veiga Wheat, was born in beja a 7 June 1951 and had 73 year old. He started playing football as a youth player at Clube Desportivo de Beja and refereeing with just 17 years, although only to 21, had officially obtained the referee diploma.

He made his debut in the 1st National Division ago 45 year old, the sports season was taking place 78/79, where he refereed a game between Clube de Futebol Belenenses and Boavista Futebol Clube. A 20 Feb. 1987, plays its 1st match abroad, in a game played between the national teams of Spain and Malta.

Throughout his career, only in Portugal, whistled about 400 games, between the 1st National Division and the 2nd League, Portuguese Cups, Supercups and national team preparation games.

He resigned from refereeing during the sports season 95/96, where he played his last game between Desportivo de Chaves and Sporting Clube de Braga.

No anus 1990, was honored by the Municipality of Beja, with the silver municipal merit medal.

He was an honorary member of the Beja Football Association and was at the origin of the cooperative that created Radio Voz da Plaina where he was still a cooperator..

He was the father of two children, Manuel and Helena.

Since o dia 16 September who suffered a stroke and was admitted to Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes, in Beja, where regrettably, on 1 October, would die.

Veiga Trigo leaves a memorable mark on sport at national and international level, where he represented Portugal in Europe and the world.

At an ordinary chamber meeting, dated 2 October 2024, We came to address the family, people, to the Beja Football Association and the Arbitration Council of the same Association, our deepest condolences at this difficult time of pain.
