A Base Aérea N.º 11 – BA11 is located near the city of Beja, having been established in 1964 by Ordinance No. 20856 of 21 October, date came to be regarded as the “Unity Day”.

The base occupies an area of ​​about 800 hectares and was built in order to meet the bilateral agreements between Portugal and Germany, in order to provide operational training facilities to the German Air Force.
