Beja: Vhils sculpted portraits of Alentejo poets on the front of a hotel to open in the city.


Alexandre Farto, known in the art world as Vhils, is the author of the two murals that decorate the facade of the Holliday Inn, hotel that will open next week in Beja.

According to the group's website, the project underwent restoration inside the building, the main façade on which the faces of Alentejo poets Florbela Espanca were carved (Vila Viçosa) and Mário Beirão (Beja).

“Vhils’ artistic intervention was created by the hotel’s architect. How they wanted to represent Alentejo poets, the Municipality suggested that one of them be from Beja, hence the male figure is Mário Beirãoâ€, revealed to Lidador Notícias a source from the Alentejo city council.

The construction of the new hotel unit 4 stars, It represents an investment of about 17 million, the responsibility of the Canadians at Mecran Group, being composed of 92 bedrooms. It also includes a commercial area with retail stores, bar, restaurant, outdoor pool and parking.

In one of the blocks of the building there are 36 apartments, which half a dozen years ago had 7 apartments sold and 4 rented, being that about 31 of the fractions hung bank mortgages.

The initial project

Called Infante Building 75, had Eletro Fabril SA as its real estate developer, in which one of the partners was Carlos Costa, former President of the Administrative Commission of Vitoria Setubal, in January 2019 saw the Beja Court declare bankruptcy and the assets pass under the auspices of Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CDG).

At the end of May last year, the Mecran Group acquired the entire building from CGD and began managing its management and sales, having placed the project under the “Portugal Golden Visa†program.
