Castro Verde City Council expresses its enormous regret for the death of Manuel Maia, archaeologist, historian and coordinator of the Cortiçol Archeology department, with a long and important work carried out and recognized in the academic world.
Manuel Maria da Fonseca Andrade Maia, I had 76 years and was from Lisbon, graduated in History from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon (1971), and was responsible for numerous archaeological excavations and coordination of various projects, together with the wife, Archaeologist Maria Maia (deceased in 2011).
With a very relevant public route, Manuel Maia maintained a strong connection with the municipality of Castro Verde for many years., contributing in a very visible way to the definition of local and country history.
From his career as an archaeologist and researcher, The discovery of the Santa Bárbara de Padrões lucerne deposit deserves special mention., the inventory of archaeological sites in the municipality and the Museum of Lucerne, where he assumed the functions of Conservator/Director.
The Municipality of Castro Verde, gathered in Ordinary Session yesterday, unanimously approved, A Vow of Condolence for the death of Dr. Manuel Maia and recalls all the dedication, commitment and friendship that Manuel Maia made available in the development of his activity in the municipality of Castro Verde, deeply marking the knowledge we have of our history, and offers its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
