Justice: Journalists and Magistrates together in Beja, for joint training action.

The Journalists Professional Card Commission (CCPJ), continuing the partnership with the Center for Judicial Studies (CEJ), will promote joint action for journalists and magistrates.

Now with the support of the Professional Training Protocol Center for Journalists (CENJOR) starts, a 14 October in Beja, the training action that will take place at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja.

This new cycle of free training actions will take place under the motto “Magistrates and journalists in dialogue: Removing obstacles and building communication bridges, to reinforce the rule of lawâ€.

Actions whose main objective is to respond to the problems raised by the media coverage of justice, were designed due to the recognition and relevance that the CCPJ, CEJ and CENJOR provide joint training for judges and journalists, even through the experience acquired within the scope of similar actions that have been carried out since 2022.

In this sense, the training plan was reformulated and adapted to the demands of journalists and judges, continuing, yet, focused on issues relevant to the Judiciary and Journalism, empowering, so, the discussion and joint reflection of common problems by participants.

The session will begin at 9:00 am with the presentation of communications on the topic “Limits to freedom of expression and the press – hate speech in light of the law and the ethical and deontological principles of journalists", which will be followed by a period of training for journalists, from the point of view of the judges and, simultaneous, training of judges from the point of view of journalists. The afternoon is reserved for the joint analysis and discussion of practical cases.

The action is open to a total of 15 journalists, 15 judicial magistrates, 10 public prosecutors and 10 magistrates of the Administrative and Tax Courts.
