Mértola: Islamic Festival 2022 confirmed, but in different format.

The Municipality of Mértola announced today in a statement that the Islamic Festival returns to Vila Museu between 19 and 22 May, come in different format.

No document, the municipality justifies that “in the impossibility of restoring circulation in good time at one of the only two entrances to the historic center of the town, in order to comply with the requirement to ensure evacuation channels in case of emergency situations”.

This situation resulted from the subsidence of the pavement of Estrada da Ribeira, last day 22 of March and which led to the screening of a heavy vehicle from the Chamber of Mértola and as Lidador Notícias had announced on the last day 11 April, this would be one of the reasons that could lead to the postponement of the Islamic Festival, which is not confirmed now, given the alteration of the streets in which it will take place.

The Municipality presided over by Mário Tomé reveals that “the traditional souk (street market) will have a different distribution, occupying Rua da Igreja that gives access to Largo da Igreja Matriz de Mértola in the historic center, being extended to the surroundings of Largo Vasco da Gama and streets that give access, already in the “new” part of the village”, adding that “despite this new configuration, From the Alcáçova to the Suburb, the Islamic Festival of Mértola presents in 2022, a “souk” with streets covered with cloths and reeds, full of artisans, multi-stop merchants, street entertainment, Offices, aromas and sounds from various parts of the mediterranean. And at Cais do Guadiana return concerts with already confirmed names such as Al Qasar, Hey Douglas, Tamikrest, Trio Carpet among many others”, finishes the city council.

to finish, Mértola City Council launches a challenge: "We count on you, we count on everyone, with those who are here and those who will come, we count on the whole world, for and with open doors we can celebrate again, in the corners of this village, already magic, mirrored in the Guadiana River which these days is invaded by the intense smells, sons, colors and flavors, and also for himself and for whoever brings it.”.
