Odemira: Library adheres to the Library Network of Charter of Principles José Saramago.


The José Saramago Foundation promoted the signing of the Library Network of Charter of Principles José Saramago, integrating the Municipal Libraries Almada (Feijó), Notice, Beja, Loures, Odemira and the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.

The document signing ceremony was attended by representatives of the entities involved, and the Municipal Library of Odemira was represented by Councilwoman Deolinda Seno Luis, responsible for culture of the area of ​​the Municipality of Odemira.

One of the initiative's goals, that in addition to the founding members will be open to other libraries with the Nobel Prize name Portuguese, It is to establish a constant dialogue between libraries for sharing proposals in the areas of programming, the creation of public knowledge and experiences involving the work and the thought of José Saramago.

The Municipal Library José Saramago Odemira, which this year marks its 19th birthday, currently it has about seven thousand registered readers, mostly young, that there can find thousands of titles for children and adult audience, between books, videos, CD´s, DVD's and numerous periodicals, as well as free internet.

Since opening this space has established itself as it has been a prime location for conducting cultural activities, from exhibitions to musical performances, poetry and theater, seminars and debates.
