Odemira: ACT Operation. Illegal work is among the concerns.


Inspectors of the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) meet, early on Monday, in Vila Nova de Milfontes, in Odemira, inspecting a property with approx. 300 workers, some of which are migrants, with the issue of illegal work being one of the priorities.

Cristina Rodrigues, ACT sub-inspector, admits that the municipality is a zone “where there is a lot of migrant work” and that “ACT takes due care to follow up in order to verify and regulate the situation of workers”.

Speaking to CNN Portugal, the person in charge reveals that “we are today on a large property, we know there are about 300 workers, our impulse is to know if they are regularized. are workers, mostly, migrants, have a certain fragility and vulnerability in terms of work”.

“Our expectation is that we can detect who is not effectively in a regular situation. We have information that there are at least four service providers, at this time we have not been able to verify how many there are, nor what are the situations of each provider”, takes over as sub-inspector of ACT.

Inspections are also planned for other properties., assured Cristina Rodrigues, not giving more details about the operation.

The ACT action was promoted jointly with the National Republican Guard (GNR), with the High Commission for Migration, (ACM) and Social Security (SS).

To remember that, in January, seven GNR soldiers were convicted of torturing immigrants in Odemira, charged with a total of 32 crimes since assaults, kidnapping and abuse of power.
