Opinion (Rogério COPETO / Official GNR): CYBER CRIME.
Yesterday, day 15 November, They were published two articles on Cybercrime, the first in JN, authored by journalist Alexandre Panda with the title "Teasing computer quadruple in five years"And the second in the DN, authored by journalist Ruth Coelho and called "Sextorsion: Teens are new victims and requested sums rose".
Lieutenant Colonel of the GNR

The theme of crime committed on the Internet has already been widely discussed, Articles "Online predators", "Cyberbullying and social networks” e “Internet and Carnival firecrackers", always with a view to alert the population, the need to promote proper procedures, in order to ensure safe use of the available resources on the Internet.
In this area, GNR has developed various actions, particularly among the younger population, under the "Safe Internet Programme", with awareness-raising actions, directed to the school community, on the need to prevent risk behaviors inherent in the use of internet, educators should establish rules, accompany all children and young people, be aware of the signs and tell authorities where the facts can typify any crime, which results in physical and psychological traumas, that late or will never be exceeded and that only the prevention to avoid them.
These actions have partners like microsoft Portugal, which together with the GNR promoted hundred shares each year, that under the "Safe Internet Programme", arrived at 5.187 and schools 694.997 students in this school year, verifying that this type of action is increasingly important, bearing in mind that our children, early start surfing the internet and expose themselves to the dangers of internet too, no notion of the possible consequences of misuse and adults do not yet have the expertise, for proper supervision of children and adolescents, taking these actions as a result, terms children and young people as more and better knowledge about the dangers of Internet.
But the issue of cyber crime is a reality for several years and it is no surprise to the most attentive, that this type of crime has increased in recent years and appear every year new criminal phenomena associated with the use of internet, It can be said with no margin for error, which can be practiced any crime via internet, even murder.
Given this reality created in EUROPL 2013 O "European Cybercrime Centre – EC3"To strengthen the response of law enforcement cyber crime in the European Union (I) and, so, help protect European citizens, companies and governments, cybercrime, it costs to Member States of the EU, 265 billion every year, and the damage to the global economy, of about 900 billion, counting solely the financial costs.
The serious and organized crime is an increasingly dynamic and complex phenomenon that requires a robust and targeted response by the information from the EU, It has therefore been considered by Europol, the report entitled "Serious Organised Crime Threat Assessment (Despite)", which aims to inform the development of serious and organized crime and the threat it poses to the EU, Cybercrime as one of the crime areas of first priority, together with the drug, counterfeiting, or human trafficking, crimes against property, economic crimes, environmental crime and arms trafficking.
But that's Cybercrime?
Any technological innovation in principle is designed to be harnessed for social good, but can also be harmful to achieve purposes, and the area of cyber crime where more easily check this misuse, beyond that cybercriminals are getting increasingly violent.
The crimes committed on the Internet generate huge profits, where they are practiced various types of online fraud, particularly associated with credit / debit cards, causing serious harm to their victims, without forgetting the sexual exploitation of children and cyber attacks, affecting critical infrastructure companies and governments, not being no country immune to such attacks, verifying that cyber crime is becoming more aggressive and confrontational, looking up in several ways, ranging from high tech crime data rape and sexual extortion.
For the general population Cybercrime is associated with financial crimes, where the purpose of the cybercriminal is the appropriation of bank codes, but no data is safe from cybercriminals, verifying that the number and frequency of personal data breaches are increasing, which, in turn, is leading to more cases of fraud and extortion, there is a huge range of opportunities that cyber criminals have sought to explore, using various dipositivos: Botnets (network devices infected with malware without the knowledge of their users, with the objective of transmitting a virus, with the ability to remotely control computer equipment for theft of passwords, disabling any antivirus protection); Backdoors (It allows remote access to devices to create botnets on compromised equipment, allowing the theft of any data type; Online forums (allow the exchange of knowledge / information from hackers); Bulletproof (services counter antivirus); Transformation of currency in virtual; Fraude on-line; sexual exploitation of children online; Conducting online arms sales operations, false passports, Fake credit cards and / or cloned, drugs, hackers services, etc. (darknet).
As can be seen the cribercrimes are made using the knowledge and technology that is not available to anyone, possibly it is the reason of the increase in this type of crime, abounding terms that are not easy to decode, and that, none of us are really protected, although wrongly assume that yes.
For clarity we present a set of terms that are the cause of most of cibercriminaliddea, such as malware (malicious software), botnet (robot network abbreviation), rootkit (set of programs), worm (program that replicates), trojan (program that steals data and deletes files), fwith infect infector (infects executable files with the .exe extension), backdoor (Remote access for trojan or RAT in English acronym), logging keystrokes (record all keystrokes); screenshots (screenshots); ransomware (prevents access to computer equipment) csareware (fake anti-virus), spyware (send e monitor actividad) and adware (displays advertising banners or pop-ups to track user behavior.
In the face of such adversity, the prognosis is not difficult to guess. Cybercrime will continue to grow every year, confronting the authorities with new phenomena, that still do not have adequate resources, knowing that will do everything to bring to justice the bar all cybercriminals, need for what ordinary people, denounce any and every crime that is a victim, while the internet user, should therefore know this reality and develop all protection procedures, It is the most basic, not open unknown recipient matching and not access to questionable content pages.
