The Main Guard Maria João Moura and the Main Guard Antonio Godinho died victims of a road accident, occurred in EN No 256 (between Évora and Reguengos de Monsaraz), by day 16h18 23 June 2014, after having delivered the exams Grouping headquarters in Évora, national math exams for the 9th year, held this morning in schools that had their responsibility, within the security operation called the national examinations "Goshawk operation".
The Main Guard Maria João Moura joined the GNR in the year 1999 and the following year joined the Home Guard Antonio Godinho, both born in Évora district, having been in the Alentejo that began to comply with the motto of the GNR "The Law and the Grey".
Both belonged to the Center Safe School, Territorial Detachment of Reguengos de Monsaraz, with the Main Guard Maria João, started his work there in 2002 and the Main Guard in Godinho 2005, where both immediately managed to gain the affection and friendship of the whole school community, due to the commitment that engaged in favor of the newest security, in achieving the objectives of "Safe School Program", whose activities aimed at children, They were being extended to elderly, under "Safety in the Elderly Program".
That is why, was natural that in 2011 the project was born "Holding Hands Generations", in order to enable social participation and the involvement of the younger community with older, fostering communication, interaction, sharing knowledge and experiences and solidarity among children and seniors under the motto "No one is so new that can not teach, and no one is so old that it can not learn".
After the project "Holding Hands Generations" have been considered Good practice, It was by decision of the General Commander, presented to 3Edition of the "Prize Manuel António da Mota", together with 180 Institutions, whose premium theme 2012, It was subordinate to "European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations" (AEEASG).
The project "Hands Generations Given" after a first evaluation was selected by the Jury to integrate the ten finalists applications, which were subsequently assessed in loco, having for this reason, the AEEASG Coordinator, Dr. Joaquina Madeira, moved to Reguengos de Monsaraz, and the end of the evaluation type opportunity to refer "... That the GNR project is an example of originality in Portugal and Europe, not knowing other Security Force to develop similar activity", whose assessment carried out was also joined by TSF, who carried a report titled "I'll let my grandparents".
On 16 December 2012 the Palácio da Bolsa in Oporto, a delivery ceremony was held awards, chaired by the then Minister of Solidarity and Social Security, Dr. Pedro Mota Soares, where was attributed to the GNR an honorable mention and a cash prize of 5.000 euros, and received the highest praise from all other institutions and members of the jury, causing the Principal Maria João Guard and the Main Guard Godinho tremendous joy, because they see their work recognized, not only internally by GNR, but also by civil society.
Internally the GNR had the opportunity to recognize the merits of Principal Maria João Guard and the Home Guard Godinho, and so we are both endowed with public praise, which were recalled their personality characteristics that both had and that were recognized by all, such as the high professional skills, courage, obedience spirit, solid moral formation, correction, character of nobility and sense of self-denial, whose characteristics have all been widely target thanks and praise, that often they were directed, by children and the elderly, who supported and who saw Maria João and not António Godinho yours "Guardian Angels", we believe today, where they are, continue to save and protect.
