Reguengos de Monsaraz: Local authority has delivered 70 population to land plots for vegetable gardens.
Under the Urban Gardens project, the Reguengos de Monsaraz Municipality handed on 20 March more 37 plots, each with 30 square meters.
Last year, in May and July, the municipality allocated a total of 33 plots of land in the same area, located near the old station road to rail.
In the third phase of this community project were carried out restoration work space, the creation of three parts prepared for Disabled, the construction of an access ramp to the two levels, placing an arbor with greenery for urban furniture and shadowing, including tables and benches.
In total were assigned 70 land parcels with individual water points, leaving only four to new stakeholders, including the three parcels intended for Disabled.
The Urban Gardens project consists of the free grant of land plots for planting agricultural products by the population. The beneficiaries may sow horticultural, cut flowers and aromatic plants, medicinal and culinary plants.
This community equipment has an important social component, it complements food sources of livelihood to beneficiaries, strengthens support for families in need, develops healthy eating habits, promotes environmental and social awareness of the community and the development of sustainable agricultural practices. The local authority raises awareness of the use of composting and of organic waste and its importance for the improvement of soil fertility.
The Urban Gardens project provides free access to planting a garden to those who do not have land for that purpose and enhances the interaction between the acceding. Those interested in receiving a parcel of land must be of legal age and residents in the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz.
