coronavirus: Portugal closes borders with Spain to tourists.
Prime Minister António Costa announced on Sunday that Portugal and Spain will decide on Monday new rules on the borders between the two countries.
António Costa made this Sunday a communication to the country, already after a meeting by videoconference with Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain, and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President.
The Prime Minister announced that the Ministers of Health of the European Union will meet on Monday to set new measures for external border, in order to combat the outbreak of Covid-19.
Also Monday, Ministers of Internal Affairs of Portugal and Spain will be gathered to set new rules for the borders between the two countries. The passage of people for tourism and leisure will be restricted and will only be allowed to movement of goods and cross-border workers.
Costa said although Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will convene a Council of State to have a broad view of what is necessary to combat the new coronavirus in Portugal. The Prime Minister also stated that the national emergency is suggested by the President, the Government will not oppose. However, clarified that can not “exhaust the ammunition all”, since it appears that “tiredness” already observed in other countries.
