Ten immigrants, agricultural workers, tested positive for covid-19 in the city of Serpa, no Beja district.
According to the online edition of the Journal News (JN), those infected are part of a group of about 30 immigrants who reside in two houses located in the city and work together on farms in the district of Beja, explained the Mayor of Serpa, Tomé Pires.
After the infection was confirmed in one of the immigrants, tests for the presence of the covid-19 virus were carried out on the remaining members of the group, nine more had positive results, said.
As indicated by the health authority, the approximately 30 immigrants were divided into two groups that are separated and provisionally housed in different municipal facilities dedicated to the covid-19 in the city of Serpa (Municipal Pavilion where there are rooms for the infected), one group consisting of the ten infected and the other group that had negative results in the tests, He explained.
This is the third covid-19 outbreak identified in the past two months among temporary agricultural workers immigrants living in the municipality of Serpa, the first two being solved, said Tomé Pires.
According to the mayor, until Sunday, in the municipality of Serpa, there was a record of 124 people infected with the covid-19 virus, of which 83 already recovered, 39 have active infections and two died.
