After five days connected to machines and a battle for life, passed away this Thursday morning at the Hospital de Faro, the young man who was run over on the Municipal Road (IN) 514 near Moreanes, municipality of Mértola.
Ricardo Costa, of 25 year old, did not resist the serious injuries caused by the hit of which he was victim of Saturday afternoon, when playing sports on the EM514 and was picked up by a car.
The accident occurred at about 14,15 hours on that road that the villages of Moreanes to Fernandes, at the intersection of Quintã and Corvos, when two vehicles crossed and one reached the young man, that was transported by helicopter to Faro Hospital.
When the alert was given “it pointed to an unconscious injured person, but later, rescue workers arrived at the scene and realized that the victim's condition was serious ”, the INEM helicopter parked in Loulé was deployed, source revealed the District Command Relief Operations (CDOS) Beja.
The aircraft landed in a clearing near the accident site and after stabilizing with the help of the VMER team from Hospital de Beja, transported the wounded to Faro Hospital. The young man's mother, that occurred at the accident site, she felt bad and after receiving assistance she was transported to the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) Castro Verde.
Since his arrival at the Hospital de Faro, Ricardo Costa was in an induced coma and connected to the ventilators that allowed him to continue fighting for, Today's life ended up not resisting serious injuries and died.
The young man lived in the village of Moreanes and worked at Café Guadiana, Mértola's oldest and most mythical restoration establishment, where Ricardo Costa was described by friends as a “nice” young man, cheerful and hardworking ”. The young man was a football player in the senior team of São Domingos Futebol Clube, having last year disputed the District Championship of the 2nd Division-Series A by the team from the mining village.
The knowledge of the young man's death led to the so-called “Vila Museu” a wave of sadness, because the victim is António Costa's son, a self-taught artist, natural of Moreares, official of the Chamber of Mértola and who 2014 builds a Christmas crib under the motto “I make art from trash”, made from recyclable materials collected at waste disposal sites.
The causes of the accident are being investigated by the Traffic Accident Investigation Nucleus (NICAV) of the Traffic Detachment of the Beja Territorial Command of GNR.
