The GNR at the 32nd BACK TO ALENTEJO: Work performed very worthy and competent way.

The work assigned to the effective Possible Traffic Detachment was fulfilled very worthy and competent way, thus helping, to your needs, for the success of the test. The success of “Alentejo” is also the success of the Alentejo Region.

GNR Trânsito_800x800In 2014 the National Guard was a Possible Traffic Detachment to accompany the 32nd edition of the Tour to the Alentejo Bike, having operational command, logistical and financial been assigned to the same Territorial Command Évora.

As Commander of Traffic Detachment, with the mission to ensure the monitoring and mobile security of the entire caravan "Alentejo", I had the responsibility of coordinating a team of an effective 17 military and 14 Car (cars and motorcycles) including ongoing support teams of mechanics and technicians of military communication systems.

The test was developed in Portalegre districts, Évora, Beja and Setúbal, starting-se, crossing and ending four steps of, in territorial area of responsibility of the GNR, except for the 1st, 2Th and 5 th, of which the first two steps, had passed through Portalegre and Estremoz (about 1.5km) whose area was policed by PSP, being the 5th and final stage ended in Évora, area also policed by PSP.

I believe that this type of evidence is essential an initial working good recognition of routes, after which, and as they say slang, “we put to work “, taking in three days made the job of passing field by way of the five stages of the race and covered about 1510 Km. Recognition is, without any doubt, a crucial and fundamental step for a smooth running of proof, serving to predict and warn complicated areas in terms of traffic and competition development, thus contributing decisively to the success of our mission.

To facilitate and assist the work of the effective Possible Traffic Detachment and contribute to a better visualization of the paths and the difficulties, the important places were photographed, landmarks and critical areas, paying special attention to the nature of the roads to be used, profile, condition and other conditions of interest, type and transit traffic levels of the roads where the race would take place, leaving the final work on the center of the localities, areas where traditionally the path tends to be more confusing.

The success of this type of mission also depends on the indispensable support of the Territorial Command local GNR, as well as the PSP Squadrons (in the respective areas), all contacts having been made as if the route was developed from the recognition, that nothing failed in coordinating the static security, in the days and times indicated.

After executing the recognition and agreed all logistical aspects, the military appointed to constitute the Traffic Detachment Possible present were sent the day before the start of the race in Portalegre, for a meeting, in order to trace individual missions and possible development schemes on the ground throughout the race and also determine the rules of conduct for the period of proof.

We established contact with the Match Director and the President of the College of Commissioners, to coordinate the technical aspects of the race, both being elucidated how GNR would perform policing, both in the development of competition as the static support.

On 26 March began the race and, as cyclists, also all personnel was eager, it was evident concern to ensure the safety of cyclists, all elements of the caravan and the other road users, and regular, guide and regulate the traffic along the routes traveled by proof. All this without neglecting the individual security of each biker, which is always an added concern.

Daily before each stage, was made contact with the Match Director - Joaquim Gomes - and with the President of the College of Commissioners, in order to finalize the details, after it was held the briefing with the military.

The fact that the "Alentejo" has the start and the end of steps in different locations, implies that has been traveled a total mileage of the steps before and after, which requires special attention to physical stress and fatigue, since each military made on average more 652 km than those who were the official mileage of proof, which was 897 Km. Altogether, were conducted by the effective Traffic Detachment about 21.680 Km, sometimes by the military to do more than 6 driving hours, without any rest, which is increased and constant concern for the physical and psychological levels, until we reach the place of overnight. Even so, and to the deserved rest, daily there was some final work, particularly as regards fuel supply, cleaning, mechanical inspection and minor repairs on vehicles.

During the course of the steps, despite the existence of some sensitive areas and critical points along the route (including sharp declines, winding and / or narrow roads in and out of locations, greater traffic flow, want estado do pavimento, adverse weather conditions, among others) Could, by service performed by Possible Traffic Detachment and the subunits of the territorial device, complete all the steps without being registasse any incident that had called into question, directly or indirectly, individual or collective safety of the athletes and the caravan itself to support the 32nd Around the Alentejo.

Last, I think it is to point out that all this substantial work assigned to the effective Possible Traffic Detachment 32nd Around the Alentejo Bike was fulfilled very worthy and competent way, thus helping, to your needs, to the success of the race and continued its recovery from a sports.

The success of “Alentejo” is also the success of the Alentejo Region.
