My Guard is a Security Force, which constitutes a fundamental pillar of the implementation of internal security policy, assuming as deepest values, the uncompromising defense of democratic rule of law and the freedoms and guarantees of citizens, established in the Portuguese Constitution and international treaties to which Portugal is part.
My Guard to fulfill its mission and responsibilities, has a device spread across the national territory, larger cells which are referred Units, and the nationwide, Intervention Unit, Safety Unit and State Honors, the Coastal and Border Control Unit, Fiscal Action Unit and the National Traffic Unit, and district level called the Territorial Command (and 20 altogether, 18 no continent, more 2 in the Autonomous Regions), which are divided into Detachments, which in turn are subdivided into posts.
My Guard is implemented throughout the national territory, extending from urban areas to the more remote and rural areas of our country, the coast inland, from north to south and until the most isolated island of the Azores, Corvo, enabling all people feel the presence of state authority, ensuring you the right to security, possibly the last right that the state can ensure even in the most isolated and desertified sites inside the country.
My Guard is responsible 94% the national territory, where it guarantees the safety of all residents and their property, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, come rain or shine.
My Guard develops within the scope of Proximity/Community Policing, work that allows you to interact with the entire civil society, in order to through mutual support give satisfaction to the solution of societal problems, primarily through partnerships, in order to solve the problems faced by populations, dedicating exclusive means and personnel to the implementation of the various special programs, where Programs Safe School and Safety in the Elderly have greater visibility, with the implementation on the ground of recognized good practices.
My Guard implemented Operation Census Contributor, which was born from the need to combat the isolation and loneliness of the elderly population, procedendo a GNR desde 2011 the survey of isolated places inhabited by elderly, signaling situations of danger and conducting awareness-raising and information on the safety procedures to be followed in situations of abuse, assault or fraud, and how they can report crimes they suffer, providing direct contacts to GNR military personnel for this purpose, thus creating bonds of trust.
My Guard is constituted like this, as a first-line entity in preventing violence, whatever form it takes, guaranteed proximity and visibility among the most vulnerable population, bringing security to the most remote places in the country, where no other institution moves.
My Guard goes beyond its obligation to guarantee security for people and property, extending its scope of action in its social responsibility, leading to all parts of the country, not only safety, but also support and help, to whoever.
My Guard achieves all this because of the most valuable resource it has, your military, men and women, they perform effectively its mission, on days, hours and conditions under which the ordinary citizen is collected in the Hearth, especially in places, innermost country, where there is no longer any representative of the State.
My Guard trains thousands of young citizens, turning them into soldiers, that when starting their career, are subject to all the rules that any citizen is obliged to, other than those that internally the governing, such as the statute, the code of conduct and discipline Regulation, that oblige them to observe a set of duties and that limit their other rights.
To carry out its various missions, my Guard uses its soldiers, with attributions and powers of action throughout the country, assuming direct responsibility for ensuring the safety, peace and public tranquility in the country, including the Portuguese coastline, which is also the external border of the European Union.
My Guard is organized into a special corps of troops, whose soldiers can perform any role, anywhere in the country, and often away from your family, in fulfillment of its various missions, with the sole reward recognition of the population it serves and the consciousness that develops an essential profession in a democratic rule of law, where unsafe, there can be no freedom.
Minha Guarda provides training to all its military personnel, so that they can carry out their tasks, in various valences, such as, military, police, professor, firefighter, life guard, knight, researcher, forensic technician, driver, sailor, fiscal, instructor, dog and horse handler, coach, musician, computer…
My Guard is made up of soldiers who have high human qualities and great dedication to serving the population, contributing to its prestige, due to the excellent and cordial relationship we have with people, fulfilling its mission, always with the aim of contributing to improving people's quality of life, who relate, especially the most fragile, not infrequently, going far beyond what is their obligation and always with a "Human, Next and Trust ".
My Guard is made up of military personnel whose mission is to ensure security for all resident citizens and those who visit us., and who swore to defend Portugal and to always be ready to fight for its freedom and independence, even with the sacrifice of their lives, and is now Commanded by General Officers who have 32 years also chose to serve the country in the Republican National Guard.
