Alentejo and Centro are the regions with the most municipalities with groundwater abstraction for human consumption that do not comply with the water resources protection law, according to a report from the General Inspectorate of Agriculture (IGA).
No district Beja, the municipalities of AlmodĂ´var (s47) and MĂ©rtola (142) These are the municipalities that present the greatest nonconformities.
According to the General Inspectorate of Agriculture, of the Sea, of the Environment and Spatial Planning (IGAMATO), as NUT II (Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistical Purposes) Alentejo and Centro have the most municipalities, respectively 43 in 47 (91%) and 66 in 78 (85%), “with captures that do not comply with the law”.
The conclusion is contained in the report, that the Lusa had access, assessment of compliance with the decree-law 382/99, which establishes protective perimeters for water abstractions intended for public supply.
The report was approved by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, in 27 June, determining the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) what, “within six months, take all necessary steps” to restore legality.
In Municipalities with the highest number of situations that do not comply with the diploma and the RURH, stand-, in descending order of the number of captures: Pampilhosa de Serra (216 nonconformities), Almodovar (147), Mértola (142), Mação (107) and Potters (106).
