The Independent Technical Commission (CTI) decided to bring forward the publication of the final report on the assessment of the location of the new airport. The Alcochete Shooting Field remains the best positioned location.
A divulgação estava prevista para dia 22 March, mas a CTI decidiu antecipar a publicação do relatório final sobre a localização do novo aeroporto. O documento mantém o Campo de Tiro de Alcochete (CTA) como a localização melhor pontuada, o que a ser a escolha definitiva vai levar à relocalização do CTA, o único espaço militar no país que permite treinos de tiro ar-chão com caças F-16 da Força Aérea Portuguesa (FAP).
Last day 7 December last year, o Lidador Notícias revelava que a FAP não tinha outra alternativa que não seja Mértola como possível destino para deslocalizar o seu Campo de Tiro, if the new Lisbon airport is built on those lands.
Na altura fonte do gabinete do Chefe de Estado-Maior da Força Aérea, General Cartaxo Alves, replied that “regardless of the solution that is taken, the Air Force will always be, as in other circumstances, part of the same”.
However, according to military sources, from 2017, when the Alcochete option for the new airport had already been considered the most advantageous by LNEC (National Civil Engineering Laboratory), Mértola's hypothesis was considered as the one that best served the operational requirements of the Air Force and “no other locations have been studied since then”.
O terreno em causa fica na ligação do concelho de Mértola a Serpa, northeast of Pulo do Lobo, on the left bank of the Guadiana, which had already been studied by the Air Force 2008, with both local authorities expressing their opposition.
A hipótese do Campo de Tiro ser deslocado para o concelho de Mértola volta a ganhar força com a avaliação da CTI sobre o facto de Alcochete ser a melhor localização para o novo aeroporto de Lisboa.
