Driver abandoned car and fled on foot. The GNR is analyzing the vehicle to identify the author of the hit-and-run.
An octogenarian died this Saturday afternoon at the Emergency Service of Hospital de Beja, after being run over on a street and Aljustrel.
The accident occurred at about 15,50 hours in the neighborhood of São João, in Aljustrel, having the wife of 80 year old, been run over by a light vehicle that would have climbed the sidewalk and hit the woman.
The woman went into cardiac arrest and was transported in an ambulance by the Aljustrel Volunteer Fire Department. (BVA), supported by the operatives of the Castro Verde Immediate Life Support vehicle, to the Emergency Department of Beja Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries, dying already in the hospital unit.
According to information from João Lemos, Deputy Commander of the BVA, “the lady was on the sidewalk, sitting in a chair sunbathing, when was the vehicle picked up, the causes of the accident being unknown.â€, reported.
Source Territorial Command Beja GNR, “The driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled, this being already in possession of the Guard to be analyzed and find evidence that allow to locate the author of the hit-and-runâ€, justified.
Following the accident, a family member of the victim felt bad, was assisted on site and then transported by firefighters to the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) Castro Verde.
Relief effort were involved 10 Aljustrel Volunteer Firefighters, SIV de Castro Verde e GNR, supported by five cars.
