The new Aljustrel Mining Park, opened this Monday, after an investment of almost six million euros from the city council, which represents a “turning point” in the municipality’s tourist attractiveness.
On Saint Barbara's Day, patron saint of miners, the Municipality of Aljustrel will hold the opening ceremony of the Aljustrel Mining Park. The first months will be dedicated to the population and local entities, with visits by appointment.
The solemn event took place at the newly created Reception and Interpretation Center of the Aljustrel Mining Park (CRIPMA), which will also open its activity for the first time and be presented.
The municipal executive chose this symbolic date, Saint Barbara's Day, to pay tribute to all miners and the entire mining community, making available to the municipality, of the region and the country a new differentiating tourist offer.
Guided visits to the Aljustrel Mining Park will be carried out, by prior appointment and subject to daily limit, namely via email at parquemineiro@mun-aljustrel.pt or by telephone 284 009 131.
The objective of the Aljustrel City Council is, at this stage, publicize this new tourist offer, which bases its pillars on the preservation of heritage and memory, firstly to the local community.
In March, the Municipality of Aljustrel, in conjunction with Turismo do Alentejo and the Roteiro de Minas de Portugal, will make a big presentation and launch of Parque Mineiro de Aljustrel at the Lisbon Tourism Exchange, mobilizing different tour operators.
The Aljustrel Mining Park will be, so, in these first months, operating under a “Soft Opening” regime, term used in the tourism sector to designate a “pre-opening”, giving the population and local entities the opportunity to familiarize themselves with this new infrastructure and tourist product.
