Two men, of 57 and 59 year old, residents in Aljustrel, in custody in Prison Beja (EPBeja) begin to be judged this Tuesday at the Judicial Court of Beja, accused of a crime of drug trafficking.
The two individuals were dedicated to selling heroin to consumers in the municipalities of Aljustrel and Ourique., having been arrested in flagrante delicto, by military core of Criminal Investigation (NIC) of Aljustrel and seized approx. 2.000 doses of heroin.
The youngest of the individuals was arrested on the night of 18 June 2021, following a surveillance operation by the GNR near the petrol stations in Aldeia de Palheiros, municipality of Ourique, when he was returning from a trip from the Algarve where he had gone to buy the narcotic. The defendant was the subject of a house search., having been present to a judge of the Court of Beja and in 19 of June was in preventive detention.
On the same day that the youngest individual was admitted to prison, the GNR developed another action that led to the arrest of the second accused who two days later, a 21 of June was heard at the Court of Ourique and also placed in preventive detention.
Of GNR operations, beyond heroin, a motor vehicle was also learned, five mobile phones, five knives, a scale and other tools used in trafficking and 1.230 euros in cash that the authorities suspect comes from the illicit activity.
The trial will have 20 prosecution witnesses, the overwhelming majority “customers” of the two traffickers. One of the witnesses was traveling with the youngest defendant on the night of the arrest and is also a pre-trial detainee at the Beja Prison, awaiting trial for the same type of crime..
At the time of arrests, given the scale of the operation, in addition to Aljustrel's NIC military, the action was supported by the NIC of AlmodĂ´var, of the Aljustrel Territorial Posts, Almodovar, Castro Verde and Ourique and the Ourique Transit Station, all effective from the Territorial Command of Beja.
