ASAE detected “evidence of a criminal offense in relation to the genuineness, quality or composition of foodstuffs”.
The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) suspended the activity of a sausage manufacturing unit in the municipality of Almodôvar (Beja), due to a bulletin that confirmed the presence of a bacterium in a product.
In a statement sent to Lusa, ASAE indicated that it had, through the Southern Regional Unit, inspection action in this sausage unit, to verify compliance with hygienic and technical and functional working conditions.
During this operation, “an analytical bulletin was found that confirmed the presence of the bacterium ‘Listeria monocytogenes’ in a sausage sample”, more precisely “in a blood sausage”.
“This documentation revealed, so, non-compliance with the microbiological criteria applicable to foodstuffs and, in the absence of evidence of any corrective action by the economic operator, suspension was determined” of your activity, “in view of the potential contamination of work surfaces and equipment”, revealed the ASAE.
a total of 360 kilos of sausages, no value 6.120 euros, it was seized inspectors in this inspection action, which also evaluated the correct implementation of the food safety system and the functioning of the traceability system of the raw material used and the quality of the final product.
ASAE also determined “the opening of an investigation procedure” to this Alentejo sausage producer “for evidence of a criminal offense with respect to the genuineness, quality or composition of foodstuffs and malfunctioning abnormal foodstuff”.
“Cumulatively, infractions of a counter-ordering nature were detected due to deficient implementation of the Hazard Analysis and Critical Point Control system (HACCP) and for non-compliance with applicable hygiene rules”, added the same organism.
