Almodovar: Alentejo Bus Station consumed by flames.


A bus from the Rodoviária do Alentejo company caught fire late this Monday morning, next to the Rotunda of the North Entrance of Almodôvar. The reasons are still unknown.

The vehicle was arriving at the town of Almodôvar, native of Castro Verde, along the National Highway (IN) 2 and would park at the local Transport Coordinating Center. The bus had no passengers and was out of service.. Inside, only the driver was traveling., who escaped unharmed.

To Radio Castrense, Castro Verde local station, the driver explained, without recording, that “when arriving at the roundabout at the entrance to Almodôvar, I noticed that smoke was coming from the back of the vehicle and I only had time to reverse gear and pull over to the nearest parking lot.”. Firefighters were immediately called.

The alert for the fire was given at 11:50 am and people were mobilized to the scene. 16 operational and five vehicles from the Almodôvar Volunteer Fire Department (BVA), as well as the local GNR.

Traffic was restricted in the area for several minutes, while BVA operatives fought the flames.
