More than one thousand and fifty million cubic meters of water have entered the Alqueva dam since last day 1 of December. It is less than two meters from the fifth filling.
According to information from the Alqueva Development and Infrastructure Company (EDIA) to 07,00 hours of Monday, the reservoir recorded the quota 150,09, being less than two meters from the maximum height of 152 meters, which represents a stored volume of 3.641,63 hm3, corresponding to 87,75 % of total storage.
Since last day 1 of December, the Alqueva dam fitted 1.057,03 hm3, having risen 5,61 meters, being at height 144,48 meters, with a volume of 2.584,50 hm3, what represented 62.00% of its total capacity.
These values ​​exceed those verified in 9 February 2021, when the reservoir was at the quota of 148,17 meters and 79,73% of its maximum capacity, path at the time for what would be the fifth filling, that would not come to fruition.
Remember that the first filling of Alqueva took place on the 12 January 2010, there are almost 13 years and the closing of the floodgates occurred at 8 February 2002.
The last time the Alqueva dam was fully filled was at the beginning of 2014, but at the time, EDIA did not discharge to the “Grande Rio do Sul”, read Guadiana river, choosing to divert part of the water to the hydroelectric plant, where energy is produced.
