One billion cubic meters is how much the Alqueva dam stored with the December rains.
In his facebook page, the Enterprise Development and Infrastructure of Alqueva (EDIA) reveals that this Monday, 02/01/2023, at 07:00, Alqueva registered the quota 149.80, which represents a stored volume of 3580 hm3 and corresponds to almost 87% of the dam's total storage.
These values exceed those verified in 9 February 2021, when the reservoir was at the quota of 148,17 meters and 79,73% of its maximum capacity, path at the time for what would be the fifth filling, that would not come to fruition.
Since day 1 of December, the Alqueva reservoir rose close to 5.5 m and fit about 1000 hm3 of water, remembering that the full storage level of the Alqueva dam is 4150 hm3, to the maximum quota of 152 m.
Remember that the first filling of Alqueva took place on the 12 January 2010, there are almost 13 years and the closing of the floodgates occurred at 8 February 2002.
The last time the Alqueva dam was fully filled was at the beginning of 2014, but at the time, EDIA did not download to the “Great Rio do Sul”, read Guadiana river, choosing to divert part of the water to the hydroelectric plant, where energy is produced.
