The Pedrógão Dam, located at 23 kilometers downstream of the Alqueva Dam, started 21 hours of Wednesday, controlled discharges due to the significant increase in tributary flows from the river river and the turbiding of the Alqueva hydroelectric plants. Guadiana Flow will increase.
The Alqueva Dam is this morning 151,49 meters, in other words, about what 50 centimeters from full storage. To manage this situation, the Enterprise Development and Infrastructure of the Alqueva (EDIA) is controlling volumes stored through the operation of the Alqueva hydroelectric plants, that send water to the Pedrógão Dam, where controlled discharges are being made.
These discharges will cause a temporary increase in the Guadiana River flow downstream of the Pedrógão Dam. For this reason, EDIA warns the riverside populations, fishermen, farmers and other users of the zone to adopt the necessary precautions. In the next few hours the instant flow released in the Pedrógão dam will have a magnitude of the order of 280 cubic meters per second.
The traffic time of the flows discharged by the Pedrógão dam is about 18 hours to the jump of the wolf, which means that time until an increase in flow in Mértola may be higher than 18 hours, also warns that entity.
