Alqueva: Connection to Monte da Rocha. Historic day with contract signing.


The construction contract that will take water from Alqueva to Monte da Rocha was signed yesterday.

This investment will guarantee public supply to Ourique, Castro Verde, Almodôvar and part of Mértola and Odemira and create a new irrigation block between Panoias and Messejana that will boost the economic development of the region.

Marcelo Guerreiro, Mayor of Ourique, considered that “this is an investment of extraordinary importance for the municipality that will allow water to be brought from Alqueva to Monte da Rocha and promote economic development through the irrigation perimeterâ€, recalling that “it was in 2017 that with the commitment of deputy Pedro Carmo that Prime Minister António Costa took the decision to move forward with the investment. Today the construction contract was finally signed and the work will go to the groundâ€, finished.

This project represents a total investment of 3 million, of which 1 million euros corresponds to PDR2020 financing. The work will allow the reinforcement of the Monte da Rocha reservoir for irrigation and public supply, as well as the creation of a new irrigation block (Messejana) with 2330 hectares, in the municipalities of Aljustrel and Ourique.
