Alqueva: First Beach has reopened, in Monsaraz, and has Blue Flag.


The river beach of Monsaraz, the first existing in the artificial lake of Alqueva, inaugurated day 1 June the bathing season and will fly the Blue Flag next day 6.

This beach was inaugurated last year, It is the first river beach of Lake Alqueva - the largest artificial lake in Europe - and received more than 30 thousand swimmers in the first months.

The municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz decided to increase the areal for today 150 meters long and 8.750 square meters of sand, and also the number of parking spaces (500).

In the sand, which existed 20 awnings, and a grassed area were created new shading zones in completion of the natural shadows of some trees.

Already in the water remains a floating structure, forming a pool 100 square meters, area for children and adults and solarium. They are also guaranteed a watch tower with lifeguards, clinic, showers, double shower with washing of feet and water access ramps for users with mobility impairments. Visitors have also to a bar and restaurant, as well as a playground, snacking zone, boat dock and ramp to access the water boats, the Nautical Center of Monsaraz.

The Monsaraz river beach is the first beach of the Great Lake Alqueva, the other is to Moura, being under construction Amieira (Portel). This is one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, with a reservoir of 250 square kilometers and covering five municipalities of the Alentejo.
