Aviation: Government invests in the expansion of Portela and airport in Alcochete.

The reinforcement of flights at Humberto Delgado and the construction of a new airport at Campo de Tiro de Alcochete is the preferred scenario within the Executive.

The Prime Minister promised a quick decision on the construction of the new Lisbon airport and the Government already has a preferred solution: move forward with an increase in flights at Humberto Delgado and the construction of new infrastructure at the Alcochete Shooting Field.

The choice of Alcochete is in line with the option considered most advantageous in the Strategic Environmental Assessment conducted by the Independent Technical Commission (CTI). Campo de Tiro and Vendas Novas were the locations identified in the study as “most favorable in global terms”, with the latter having less “advantage in terms of proximity to the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, as well as implementation time”.

The option for Alcochete also allows maintaining the understanding forged between Luís Montenegro and the previous prime minister, António Costa, for a consensual solution between the two largest parties. The new secretary general of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, has already stated in the past that it supports the CTI's recommendation and that the decision can no longer be postponed.
