Aviation: Union sees “good eyes” use of Beja Airport on certain flights.

It's a suggestion that makes sense. The president of the National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel applauds the Independent Technical Commission's idea of using Beja Airport for cargo flights and charters, until there is a new airport.

The Commission understands that this measure could contribute to freeing up Humberto Delgado Airport. Heard by Antenna 1, Ricardo Penarróias considers that the advantages would be many.

The report of the Independent Technical Commission, today known, points to Beja as a fallback solution for non-commercial flights.

The study is already in the hands of the Government with suggestions to be put into practice, until there is a definitive location for the new airport.

Improvements and construction of a new T3 Terminal

The report also proposes the transfer of “civilian traffic to Cascais” and “military traffic (VIP) to an air base, that does not impact the operation of the AHD, and to be analyzed with the Portuguese Air Force (FAP)".

CTI recommends the improvement of airport infrastructure with investments to be carried out by ANA Aeroportos/Vinci, which has the concession until 2062. Proposals include creating the possibility of multiple entries onto the track 20 (a principal), taxiway paralelo, minimizing lane crossing, quick exits to the tracks 20 and 2, optimization of ground circulation and increase in the number of aircraft parking spaces.

Another proposal is “the creation of a new T3 Terminal, with direct access from outside, and respective platforms and access taxiways” in the military zone of Figo Maduro, which would have to be transferred to another air base until there is a new airport solution for Lisbon.
