Pilot-Aviator Colonel Carlos Alberto Nunes Lourenço was born 30 May 1970, in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique.
He joined the Air Force Academy in 1988, having graduated in Aeronautical Military Sciences and obtained the Military Pilot-Aviator 1994.
Later, is selected to take the Combat Aircraft Piloting Complementary Instruction Course, Police na 103 – “snails”, which concludes in 1995.
In October 1995 is placed in the Police Station 201 – “hawks”, Air Base No. 5 (BA5), Monte Real, operating the F-16A aircraft until August 2005. He is then placed in the Police Station 301 – “Jaguars” where, operating the F-16M aircraft, served as Operations Officer and Squadron Commander until June 2010.
In the F-16A and F-16M aircraft, he achieved the qualification of Squadron Commander, Fleet Commander in Flight, Instructor Pilot and Flight Test Pilot. Throughout his aeronautical career, he has accumulated, approximately, 3300 flight hours, of which almost 3000 hours in F-16A/M.
In June 2010, is placed in the Air Command, acting as Head of the Exercises Division until 2016. During this period, was responsible for the planning and execution of the exercises: REAL THAW 2009 – 2016; HOT BLADE 2012 -2014; EATT 2015 and 2016; TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2015.
In 2007 participated in the Air Policing mission in the Baltic States (BAP07) and is twice appointed Commander of the National Detached Forces, on the Iceland Air Policing mission (IAP12), Iceland and Baltic Air Policing (BAP14), Lithuania.
In September 2016, is placed at the Deployable Air Command and Control Center (DACCC), in Poggio Renatico, Italy, where he served as Combat Operations Division Head until 2019. During the mission he was appointed and headed for two years the Combat Operations Division of the Joint Force Air Component. (JFAC) from NATO, Ramstein, Germany.
In 2019, is placed back in Air Command, first as Deputy Director of Air Operations and, in June 2020, as Chief of Staff of the Air Command. During this time, had the opportunity to organize the exercises: REAL THAW 2021, NATO TIGER MEET 2021 e HOT BLADE 2021.
In addition to the pre-Bologna degree in Aeronautical Military Sciences – Aeronautical Piloting (More than seven years after entering the Air Force Academy, 1994), He attended, among others, Basic Command Course (IAEFA, 1999), Curso Combined Air Operation (TLP, 2000), Curso NATO Conventional Targeting/Weaponeering Course (Oberammergau, 2001), General Air Warfare Course (IAEFA, 2004), Curso NATO Operations Taceval Evaluator Course (Oberammergau, 2010), Curso Initial Functional JFAC Training (DACCC, 2016) and the NATO Senior Officer Policy Course (Oberammergau, 2017).
Has several institutional medals and accolades, where a Gold-grade Distinguished Service Medal and four Silver-grade Distinguished Service Medals stand out.
Colonel Carlos Lourenço is divorced and has two daughters, Beatriz and Sofia.
