BA11/Beja: First of six P-3C aircraft purchased from Germany arrived in Portugal.


The first of six P-3C aircraft acquired by the Air Force from Germany has landed, Friday, by 14.20 Air Base No. 11, in Beja.

According to a statement sent to newsrooms “the inventory of the P-3C fleet made available by the Federal Republic of Germany consisting of six aircraft; conjuntos Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU); outstanding; support equipment and test benches; as well as flight and tactical procedures simulators”.

The six planes will be integrated into the “Lobos” fleet, “responsible for ensuring the sovereignty and surveillance of the Strategic Space of National Interest and the coverage of the entire area of ​​the two flight information and search and rescue regions under the jurisdiction of the Portuguese State – one of the largest in the world –, contributing decisively to very long-range search and rescue missions, which guarantee the safeguarding of human life in cases of accidents or emergency situations occurring at sea”.

The Government states that the acquisition is a “opportunity to guarantee the operation of the P-3C CUP+ weapon system in the coming years without significant constraints”.
