Catarina Eufémia will be honored today, in Baleizão, by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) on the exact day, 19 May, in which they are completed 70 years of his assassination by fascism.
In a statement, the PCP maintains that Catarina “example and symbol of the vanguard worker and communist woman, was an example of courage and resistance, pride of the glorious Alentejo rural proletariat, pride of all Portuguese workers, pride of the Portuguese Communist Party”, justify.
The tribute, promoted by the PCP, similar to what has happened annually since the triumph of the April Revolution, in 1974, takes place in Baleizão, this Sunday, a partir the 11 hours, starting with a gathering in Largo da Igreja.
Flowers are laid at Catherine's tomb, the parade through the village streets to Largo Catarina Eufémia, a musical moment with Grupo Coral de Baleizão and a rally, with the intervention of the secretary general of the PCP, Paulo Raimundo and João Oliveira, 1CDU's th candidate for the European Parliament. It takes place later, in Bela Vista Park, a social lunch, with cultural entertainment.
The PCP justifies that “as part of the celebrations of 50 april years, of the struggle we wage today in defense of freedom, democracy and social progress, the PCP urges communists and other democrats to participate in the tribute to Catarina Eufémia, on the 70th anniversary of his barbaric murder by fascism”, finish the party.
