Pakistani citizen, of 28 year old, accused of raping a woman, in the city of Beja, was condemned this Friday afternoon by a Panel of Judges (CJ) from the city court, to a sentence of six years in prison, 5.000 euros of compensation to the victim and expulsion from national territory.
Saqab Jawad, farmhand, who resided in Beringel, a village located about 13 miles of Beja, met the victim, of 43 year old, three days before the crime, practiced in the early hours of the day 25 April 2023.
In reading the ruling, the president of the CJ, justified, that in the trial session, the defendant “admitted that he had convinced himself that he was going to have sex that night and since the woman didn’t want to, understood having sex by force”, adding that all the evidence collected by the investigation “allows us to conclude that the violation occurred”, finished.
The judge justified that the expulsion from the country, after serving the sentence, is due to the fact “the seriousness of the acts carried out, being illegal in Portugal and not having family members in the national territory”, summed up.
“Faced with a wave of migrants, there is the wrong discourse that they are associated with the increase in crimes in Portugal, but cases like this are isolated and the court has to have a tough response so that they don’t all pay the same coin”, maintained the judge.
The crime occurred inside the courtyard of the building where the woman lives., cerca the 03,00 hours, after they had been in a bar drinking drinks and the defendant offered to accompany her to the door of the residence. After the victim opens the door, the defendant violently grabbed her by the back of the head, threw her to the pavement and after covering her mouth, he tore her clothes and despite the woman struggling and hitting the individual in the face with a key chain,, did not prevent it from being raped.
The defendant will wait in pre-trial detention, in Prison Beja, the final judgment of the judgment.
