Beja: OLE concert celebrates 371st birthday Infantry Regiment 1.


Integrated in the commemorative ceremonies of the 371st anniversary of the Infantry Regiment 1, based in Beja, held this Wednesday at Cine Teatro Pax-Julia, a concert Army Light Orchestra (BE).

The Infantry Regiment No. 1, based in Beja and a Detachment in Tavira, celebrates the day 27 September its Unity Day, date on which this Regiment participated in the Battle of Buçaco against the invading Napoleonic forces.

In this battle, fought during the Third French Invasion and during the Peninsular War, mode or cast, courageous and dedicated Regiment led to this day be perpetuated as the biggest day in memory of its military.

Historical Review of the Army Light Orchestra

Headquartered at the Military Center for Electronics, in Paco de Arcos, OLE started its activities in 1977, succeeding a military musical group created by the Military Region of Lisbon, that in the early 70 made furor in a radio program of Radio Broadcasting.

Running Light compositions, OLE has sought to enhance the taste for national music, developing for this purpose a collecting work, instrumentation and dissemination of popular root issues, is today considered as a true "ambassador" of the Portuguese Army with the military and civil society, contributing to its affirmation and cultural appreciation.
