Works on the Municipal Road 511 (EM511), commonly known as “Estrada da Salvada” caused the first road accident, that the driver of a passenger vehicle was unharmed, which then overturned.
The accident occurred at 09,20 Hour Friday, when the vehicle traveling towards Beja/Salvada (North South), left the road and fell down a cliff, ending up getting stuck in the fence of an olive grove on site.
Work on the road began last day 23 May, in a section of ceeca of four kilometers after leaving Beja, in a section approximately the same distance from the entrance to the mill, traffic in both directions, with the exception of the place where the machines work where it is done alternately, without light signaling.
Heard by Lidador News (LN), Nelson Kitty, president of the Parish Union of Salvada and Quintos, stated that “the company responsible for the work assured that the road would not be interrupted, tearing up just one way, circulating through the other alternately, with traffic lights in place”, justified.
The mayor assured that “we will understand with the person responsible for the work why the entire road was torn up, when what was said was that it would only be one way”, concluded.
Motorists are unhappy with the fact that the road has been torn up and the lack of security in the area.. “When they were working off the road, there were traffic lights, now they have disappeared. At night there is a huge lack of signage., which will cause more accidents.”, said a driver who requested anonymity.
LN sought to contact the mayor of Beja in order to obtain a reaction from the mayor, but this has not yet been possible.
