Beja: Historical courtship, that recreates the history of Pax-Julia foundation.
The Municipality of Beja organizes, no Saturday, day 12 August or 3rd Historical Courtship, built in the 4th edition of the Parties in Honor and Praise of Santa Maria.
The richness and diversity of the history of Beja county are the motto for the realization of an event that aims to promote and enhance the same, addressing events, contexts and citizens who stood out over more than two millennia.
As part of the 4th edition of the Parties in Honor and Praise of Santa Maria, the Historical Parade leaves the D Street roundabout. Afonso Henriques, 19h00, Saturday, day 12 August
The parade will start at the D Street roundabout. Afonso Henriques, according to Camões Rua Luis, Gomes Palma Street, Cod Garden, Rua da Liberdade and ends at Avenida Miguel Fernandes.
In total will be about 600 extras that will recreate a history of over twenty centuries; desde o século I d.C., with the founding of the city Pax Iulia, to the twenty-first century, to Sing, elevated to "Intangible Heritage of Humanity", the procession recreates relevant historical periods to the county as the Islamic period, the first charter of Beja given by King D. Afonso III, the Revolution of 1383-85, Manueline period, soror Mariana Alcoforado, liberal struggles, Republicans and the April Revolution.
In this 3rd edition will present some novelties: a new framework will evoke the life of Friar Manuel de Cenáculo, a man of the "Century of Lights", and we have an example of classical architecture of the sixteenth century, through a representation of the Church of Mercy.
