Beja: discussion futile, wrapped in alcohol, at the origin of a violent homicide.
The futility of a discussion motivated by alcohol and trifles of money was responsible for the murder of a man of 63 year old, occurred yesterday afternoon at the crime suspect's house, a man of 59 year old, who was stabbed to death.
After attacking the friend with a kitchen knife, Manuel dos Santos called a taxi and delivered himself to the PSP Police Station in Beja, where he said he confessed to killing Francisco Ferro.
Police officers went to the room and found the victim lifeless and in a bloodbath and lying on a bed. The bloody knife was found by the police in one of the rooms in the house.
The homicide occurred around 15,00 hours in a single storey house located near the jail and the Beja hospital, and it happened following the Manuel dos Santos attack, known as “Blé Açorda”, who struck at least seven stabs in the heart and chest area of Francisco Ferro, that in the city had the nickname of “Chinese”.
The house belongs to the murderer and his family and the victim had been staying with his friend for some time, what was known while getting a room to live. For different reasons the two men had problems with alcohol and money, and discussions between the two men were frequent, but “nothing could predict this outcome”, He told JN, José Paixão, a neighbor.
Francisco Ferro was at home and would be lying, in turn Manuel dos Santos was seen by neighbors returning to the room with a bag of papossecos and it was after that that the crime occurred. There were still people who saw the man leave the house and take the taxi, but nobody was surprised, since it was the practice of the individual while having money to travel from home to some points of the city in that type of transport. Only after the arrival of the police and the ambulance apparatus did people report the murder.
Not many months ago Manuel dos Santos was blessed by luck on scratch cards, talk about 25.000 euros, but he wasted everything at a glance and started dedicating himself to the sale of drugs in the city center, where he was recently detained, at least twice.
In turn Francisco Ferro, is a former employee of the Beja District Assembly (ADBeja), who was convicted of the crime of embezzlement to three and a half years of suspended prison, since it deflected more than 95 thousand euros from the institution's coffers. In addition to being subject to the payment of 95.214,45 euros, who never did, was expelled from ADBeja and started in an erratic life.
Manuel dos Santos stayed in the cells of the PSP Police Station, until he became available to the PJ who heard him in that place, today the first interrogation should be present at the Beja Court, for the application of enforcement measures.
About a dozen and a half agents from the Criminal Investigation and Traffic Police Station of the PSP in Beja, eight inspectors from the Faro Board of the PJ, four operational and two ambulance of the Firefighters and the VMER of the Hospital of Beja. Francisco Ferro's body was taken to the Beja Medical-Legal Office where he will be autopsied.

The District Command Beja PSP (CD Beja), communicates that, in Beja, today (Tuesday), by 15H00, detained a man, of 59 years, for the suspicion of the crime of homicide.
The individual concerned, introduced himself, voluntarily, at the Beja Complex Police Station, reporting that he had killed a man.
Police investigations, carried out immediately, confirmed the existence of a deadly victim, male and with 63 years, and also resulted in the seizure of a melee weapon, suspected of having been used in the commission of the crime.
The detainee will be tomorrow (Wednesday) present at the Judicial Court of Beja, for submission to first judicial interrogation and, eventual, application of preventive coercion measure.
