the day of the cob, or Ascension Thursday, marks the day of the Municipality of Beja, for being the Municipal Holiday.
Traditionally, the walk is taken to catch the “sprig of fortune” through the fields of the county. Beyond, from the ride, the sports demonstrations, on thursday morning, the Pax Julia Teatro Municipal de Beja welcomes, a partir the 10.30 hours, the municipal medal giving session.

Ascension Thursday is Thursday 40 days after Easter Sunday (from Easter to Ascension 40 days go) and it is Municipal Holiday in 30 of 308 municipalities of mainland Portugal and autonomous regions. Beyond Beja, in the district the date is celebrated in Alvito and Vidigueira. In Alentejo also in Arraiolos, Estremoz and Alter do Chão is a municipal holiday.
In the coming years, Ascension Thursday, the Municipal Holiday is celebrated in 18 from May of 2023, 9 from May of 2024 and 29 from May of 2025.
