Beja: GNR seizes gas cannon scares birds. fine of almost 45 thousand euros.


Gas cannon and emitting radios to scare birds without ICNF licensing in the sights of GNR. Fines are huge.

A farmer to whom the GNR seized a gas cannon to scare away birds, may suffer a fine of almost 45 thousand euros, for lack of licensing with the National Institute for Nature Conservation (ICNF), of a device that together with the bottle, costs little more than 300 euros.

The seizure was made by the Animal Protection Nucleus (NPA) of Territorial Command of Beja (CTBeja) on a farm, located in the municipality of Beja, following an inspection action, having the elements of the NPA seized an air cannon and a gas cylinder, besides having identified the company that used the device.

An administrative offense was prepared for lack of licensing, punishable by a fine that may amount to 44.890 euros, and that was sent to the ICNF.

The JN found that the owners of the handsets call the ICNF to inform about the existence of the handset and the institution makes the licensing and informs the authorities. A farmer, who asked for anonymity, justified that the gas cannon “makes a very strong shot and is annoying, but the damage of birds in crops is much greater ”.

Our interlocutor argued that “the killing of sparrows-do-mato should be authorized, because they are by the thousands and there is no danger of extinction ”, justifying that “only the smell of gunpowder and lead chases away this past. A law is needed to legalize the killing of sparrows, destroy cultures and our economies ”, finished.

In late January, the NPA military seized six radio stations and the sounds and signals known as “Sparrow Sparks”, with the respective grants, appliances with an approximate cost of 2.000 euros.
