The Municipality of Beja approved, unanimously, that this Tuesday, day 8 October, be a Municipal Day of Mourning, in memory of Bejense citizen and former international referee Veiga Trigo, deceased in the past day 1 October.
At the chamber meeting, held last Wednesday morning, a few hours before Veiga Trigo's funeral, the municipal executive observed a minute of silence and unanimously approved, by PS elected officials, CDU and PSD, a vote of regret. Besides, it was approved that it should be noted, Tuesday, a Municipal Day of Mourning, with the Beja flag being placed at half-mast in the municipality building.
In the condolence note sent to the family, particularly to children, Manuel e Helena, the former referee's sporting past is remembered, born in Beja a 7 July 1951, and that, in 1990, in City Day celebrations, was awarded the silver municipal merit medal.
Beja City Council recalled that “Veiga Trigo leaves a memorable mark on national and international sport, where he represented Portugal in Europe and the worldâ€.
The former referee was since the day 16 September admitted to Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes, in Beja, after having suffered a stroke (stroke), where he ended up last Tuesday afternoon.
