Work began to remove the fiber cement/asbestos roofing of the Santiago Maior de Beja Basic School.
In a post on social media, the Mayor of Beja says that “this work should have been carried out 1 year ago, however, the delay in delivering the new roofing materials to the contractor meant that it was only possible to remove the fiber cement from the Mário Beirão Basic School”, adding that “the intervention planned for the Basic School of Santiago Maior was, for the 2022 Summer School Break”, concluded.
Paulo Arsénio concluded that “in total, an area of 3.100 m², being of those, 2.905 m² of fiber cement roof removal and the remaining 195 m² of interventions in skylights and terraces”, maintaining that the cost of the work “is € 173.832,63 + VAT 6%, having CM Beja obtained financing, for the work that started today, €151,638.71”, finished.
In total, the removal of fiber cement and ancillary interventions in the two schools have a VAT cost of € 380.346,95 (out price reviews), justifying the mayor that “CM Beja benefited from a total financing of € 300.116,39, leaving schools in the county with Zero asbestos”.
