The IX National Congress on Irrigation and Drainage will be held from 18 a 20 October, no Beja Polytechnic Institute, in a debate forum on ‘The Sustainability of Irrigation-Challenges and Opportunities’.
The four thematic areas of the Congress – Efficiency, Energy, Economy and Ecology – reflect the concerns and commitments of this strategic sector of our economy with improving the use and management of water and energy in agriculture, increasing water productivity and reducing the environmental impact associated with irrigation.
The program contains several round tables with guests of excellence, experts in agriculture and environment, as well as the presentation of innovative and relevant applied research projects for the future of Irrigation and Drainage.
“Irrigation is essential for the competitiveness and sustainability of Portuguese agriculture in a scenario of climate change that imposes growing challenges to food production and that, simultaneously, requires a judicious use of the water resource. The ninth edition of the National Congress on Irrigation and Drainage aims to contribute to the debate of technical solutions and political options that respond to the current challenges of farmers and irrigation associations”, says Gonçalo Morais Tristão, Chairman of the Board of COTR- Regadio Operational and Technological Center, the entity that organizes the Congress in partnership with various public and private entities.
