Travel between the two district capitals will take an hour and 13 minutes. Service will be carried out with diesel railcars to 120 km/h.
According to Living Money, Global Media Group publication, there will once again be a direct train between Beja and Évora. From sunday, 13 June, CP restores the rail link between the two district capitals of Alentejo after 11 years of absence.
With three circulations per day per direction, Intercidades will take at least an hour and 13 minutes to go 89,6 kilometers, according to the information on the carrier's portal.
Cuba, Alvito, Vila Nova da Baronia, Alcáçovas and Casa Branca are the five stations and stopovers where an unusual Intercidades by CP standards will pass – habitually, is a locomotive and carriages. Along the Alentejo line, the service is carried out with a series diesel railcar 450 because the Casa Branca-Beja section is not electrified. The train with two carriages, who entered service in 1965 and was modernized in 1999, does not exceed the 120 km/h on a section where the maximum speed is 140 km/h.
The train has another peculiarity: on arrival at the White House, it takes six minutes to reverse the train because there is no direct connection between the Alentejo line and the Évora line. The problem could be solved by building a concordance at the White House, an estimated investment of at least eight million euros, according to Infrastructures of Portugal.
The trip could also gain more safety with the introduction of electronic signaling between Casa Branca and Beja. Until then, the change between seasons depends exclusively on human means., through a call between agents at the railway manager's stations. Known as telephone singing, this system comes from the 19th century – and from the times of the telegraph.
we last 11 year old, who was in Évora and needed to go to Beja (or vice versa) I had to leave the White House and wait an hour for another train. It took at least two hours and 13 minutes to do 89,6 kilometers. No hotline, residents in Beja took as long to get to Évora as it did to Lisbon, a mais de 170 kilometers.
To 2010, the direct trip between Beja and Évora took at least an hour and 18 minutes and was carried out with Allan diesel railcars 350, with maximum speed of 100 km/h.
Also from Sunday, CP will create a new circulation between Lisbon and Évora, which now has five daily trips in each direction. Three Alfa Pendular trains will also be replaced, by sense, on Lisbon connections – Braga, Lisbon – Porto and Porto – Lighthouse. The Inter-regional train between Valença and Coimbra-B will run to Figueira da Foz.
