Beja: Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in celebration of 40 years of the PSD.
The Vice-President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Dr. José Matos Correia, and the ex-PSD leader, Prof. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will be this Friday, 10 April 2015, 21h30, in a session of 40 years of PSD in Beja, no Pax Julia Theater.
On occasion Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, should remember the “Hot summer” of 1975 and yours “adventure” in Beja, wandering over the roofs of the PSD headquarters, in Republic Square, after the interruption of a rally in Pax-Júlia, promoted by PSD.
In PSD's own words, we remember the events of that night in “Cidade Pax-Júlia” ………
– Pax-Julia 1975 - The most turbulent and dangerous PPD / PSD night in Beja and perhaps in the country…
It was in full campaign for the Constituent of 1975, a rally is held at Cine Teatro Pax Júlia in the evening with the presence of local officials and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, having been invited to the table by local authorities such as the Civil Governor, Police commander and some mayors of various political currents to avoid or dissuade the far-left militants who wanted to forcefully enter Pax Júlia and boycott the rally by meeting outside with incendiary slogans: "Down with the PPD", "Death to fascism", "Fascists" ...
Its security was provided by a handful of dedicated Jota militants (JSD) Beja, with the reinforcement of some companions who had come from the Agricultural School of Évora, but the correlation of forces was disproportionate in favor of the agitators.
After several skirmishes and aggressions and a very violent environment, and given the persistence of boycotts, and most, managed to prevent the conclusion of the rally, that only allowed the intervention of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Such confusion and violence arose that the authorities were also attacked, leaving in extremis with elements of the rally table and local PSD and JSD leaders, through a side door, staying, the security of JSD trapped in a corner of the theater, at which time there were several injured on both sides.
Attackers were heard asking for popular justice, creating an environment so violent that it would have a very unpredictable outcome if they had not been removed by soldiers from the “copcon”, who intervened and took them to the RIB barracks until 2 am when they were able to leave in freedom and security.
After the boycott of the rally, local PSD leaders, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and entourage, they went to the headquarters in Praça da República which had a soldier at the door supposedly to protect it and there they waited for things to calm down.
PSD leaders immediately realize that the worst could happen and things would not stop there, because the noise outside was increasing and those who boycotted the rally tried to rob the headquarters and break down the door that had already been reinforced with desks and chairs.
But the worst happened ... the soldier disappeared, the mutineers broke into the headquarters door carrying chairs, typewriters, stencils e diverso material, they also broke down the door of a private house that adjoined that of the headquarters, they took over the books on the shelf, some with Salazar's biography and as if they belonged to the PSD, they took everything to the center of Praça da República where a fire was set that reduced the “literary collection to ashes, according to them fascist… ”who was supposedly at headquarters!!!
Meanwhile, the flight of the militants who were at the headquarters before the break-in, it happens in two ways, leaders from PSD and JSD and some of the participants at the rally came out of a back door, because the mob was behind and the sound of some shots had already been heard, and through the roofs, left Palma Santos Director of the PSD District of Beja and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, this one wandered through the roofs of the city about an hour on a cold night, until he was evacuated to a safe house and left for Lisbon with those who accompanied him, where they would arrive at dawn ...
