Beja: Woman who tried to introduce drugs into jail, sentenced to effective imprisonment.


Six years in prison for woman who intended to introduce drugs into jail inside her partner's clothes, inmate at the Beja Prison.

A woman 41 year old, was condemned yesterday by a judge of the Court of Beja, to six years effective imprisonment, for a crime of aggravated drug trafficking, for having tried to introduce drugs inside the Prison (EPBeja) city.

On 31 July 2020, Maria da Costa, resident in Serpa, went to EPBeja, to visit her partner and carried a bag with several items of clothing in which she concealed cannabis and cocaine, who aimed to get to the prisoner.

Three days later, prison guards searched the bag and inside the seam of a pair of jeans, a piece of cannabis the weight of 4,386 grams, enough for 22 single doses and 2,320 grams of cocaine, that would give to elaborate 58 individual doses.

During the investigation, it was possible to verify that despite the bag and the clothes belonged to the inmate, they never came into his possession, reason why the Public Ministry of Beja closed the procedure against the individual.

Sentenced to six years in prison, the defendant will wait in freedom for the final decision of the judgment, and the same can be appealed to the Court of Appeal of Évora (THREE), which may or may not change the number of years of conviction.

If the decision is negative for the defendant, the competent arrest warrants will be issued and taken to the Tires Prison, to serve the sentence to which she was sentenced yesterday.
