Beja: Eight years in prison for attempted murder and domestic violence against ex-partner.

A Collective of Judges from the Beja Court yesterday afternoon sentenced an individual to eight years in prison, in legal height, by degree murder, in attempted form and domestic violence, committed against his ex-partner.

Nelson Rui BarĂŁo, of 48 year old, gardener at air base 11, in Beja, was sentenced to partial sentences of 7 years for attempted murder and 2 years and 6 months due to domestic violence, the court having awarded compensation to the victim in the amount of 20.000 euros.

The Court also upheld the reimbursement requests and ordered the defendant to pay the Baixo Alentejo Local Health Unit the amount of 6.746,01 euros and to the Social Security Institute the amount of 887,20 euros.

In reading the judgment, the president of the CJ justified the sentence with the fact that “the defendant's statements and stance did not deserve any credibility and did not deserve any comment”, adding the magistrate that “he is a man of bad habits, who did not prioritize family and life”. “You are the main culprit for your child’s behavior and attitudes towards society”, finished

The attempted murder occurred around 02,20 hours 25 June last year, with the defendant waiting for the woman and when she was going home, a building located in Largo da Estação Railway, in Beja, stabbed several times, having punctured the left lung, victim's chest and head.

While being hit, the victim screamed for help, having a former PSP agent, who works as a security guard at the train station, rescued the woman and made the attacker flee. Given the very serious condition of the victim, the former police officer transported her in his vehicle to the Emergency Department of Hospital José Joaquim Fernandes, in Beja, having entered directly into the Operating Room where she underwent a surgical intervention, which was decisive in preventing his death

The defendant will await the final judgment of the ruling in preventive detention at the Beja Prison.
